The event will gather top experts – including policy makers, business, civil society and academia – to discuss: the role of cities as hubs for sustainability, innovation and as ‘drivers’ of sustainable development, what constitutes a smart and sustainable city and why innovation is at the centre of its transformation. It will provide an opportunity to share experiences and case studies from across the UNECE region, including economies in transition, and learn from success stories.
The conference is expected to attract around 100 participants from national and local governments, the private sector, international organizations, civil society and academia. It will be held in the context of the twelfth annual session of the UNECE Team of Specialists on Innovation and Competitiveness (5-6 December 2019), which, in addition to the conference, will provide an opportunity to review the work of the UNECE Team of Specialists on Innovation and Competitiveness Policies over the past 12 months, and proposals for activities in the coming year.
